Call for Nominations ETSU Alumni Association Annual Awards

The ETSU Alumni Association board of directors- Honors, Awards, and Nominations Committee would like to ask for your assistance. We are seeking names of individuals for consideration for the annual awards program, and we would like to have your suggestions. We need your help identifying ETSU alumni and friends that are deserving of recognition and who have brought distinction to the university. Recognition of alumni and friends of the university is done under the criteria for one of the following awards:

Outstanding Alumnus

Distinguished Alumni

Outstanding Alumna

Honorary Alumni

Award of Honor

Service Award

A complete list of previous award winners can be found here. This list is composed of alumni and friends who have brought honor to the university and who have contributed to making ETSU a better institution. Due to the limited number of awards presented annually, nominations are retained for future consideration.

Presentations to the award winners will be at the Alumni Association's Award Banquet, which is help in the spring.

Thank you for your support of East Tennessee State University, the Alumni Association and our efforts to continue to bring recognition to those alumni and friends who have helped to make ETSU a great university.

Selection Criteria- Alumni Awards Program

The ETSU Alumni Association board's Honors and Awards Committee reviews all nominations and recommends selection to the board. All of these awards are presented at the Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet in May. nominations should include name, address, resume, newspaper clippings, or any other information supporting the individual nominated. Outstanding Alumnus and Alumna Criteria
-Person who has earned one or more degrees from the university
-Demonstrated significant accomplishments in chosen field of work
-Demonstrated exemplary service to the community
-Demonstrated moral and/or financial commitment to the university
-Demonstrated commitment to the Alumni Association in terms of time, energy, and/or financial support
-Represents the very best the university has to offer as a graduate
Person future graduates will want to emulate, thus attracting new students and developing additional graduates of the same high quality
-ONLY one (1) alumnus and one (1) alumna to receive award each year

Award of Honor Criteria
-Has earned one or more degrees from East Tennessee State University
-Demonstrated significant accomplishments in chosen field of work
-Demonstrated moral and/or financial support to university since graduation
-More than one certificate may be awarded yearly, not to exceed four

Service Award Criteria Established 2009
-Has earned one or more degrees at East Tennessee State University
-Must have volunteered work, time, or talents without benefit of pay
-Volunteer activity must directly benefit ETSU and/or the ETSU Alumni Association

Distinguished Alumni Criteria

The designation of "Distinguished Alumni" began in 1981 as a way of recognizing individuals, who have attended or graduated from the university, that have established an exceptional record in a particular career discipline. The award has been utilized on occasion for a person or group of alumni who have reached a threshold of achievement, which brings honor to their relationship with East Tennessee State University.

George L. Carter Award Criteria

This award is in honor of the important works of George L. Carter, who helped create what is now East Tennessee State University by providing land, enlisting support and organizing local government agreements in the campaign to place the normal school in Johnson City. As an industrialist and philanthropist, Carter was extremely influential in the region at the turn of the century. The award is bestowed upon gradates and friends who have made ETSU a better place. As alumni, we seek to honor those individuals who have demonstrated unselfish support and belief in East Tennessee State University and its future. This award will only go to persons who have exemplified the standards that George L. Carter created through his generosity and vision. This recognition is warranted by action of the East Tennessee State University Alumni Association.

Honorary Alumnus and Alumna Criteria
-Is not a university graduate
-Demonstrated moral and/or financial support, shared skills, knowledge, personal time, and energy to the university
-Person should bring distinction to university and should be one with whom university desires to be associated
-More than one (1) person can be selected per year.
